Bet on the E.P. Taylor Stakes
Inaugurated as the Nettie Handicap in 1956, this Grade 1 Stakes race is run 1 1/4 miles on turf. This race was renamed in 1981 to honor E.P. Taylor who was President of the Ontario Jockey Club from 1953 until 1973. Taylor also owned legendary Windfields Farm, which was one of the premier horse breeding operations in Canada. The race ($500K purse) moved from Greenwood Raceway to Woodbine in 1964 and E.P. Taylor champions often go on to compete in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf.

2016 E.P. Taylor Stakes Contenders
The 2015 running of the E.P. Taylor Stakes (G1) drew a competitive and international field with runners representing five separate countries. Curvy (GB), a three-year-old filly facing older rivals, went to the gate as the tentative favorite in the field of twelve and would be making her second North American start.
Despite breaking a step slowly under jockey Ryan Moore, she settled off the pace and found herself boxed in behind a wall of horses. Moore patiently waited for a seam and when one appeared, she began to thread through her rivals and hit the top of the stretch with momentum. She drew off to win by 1 ½ lengths in a stylish victory while longshot Talmada closed to nab second from the front-running Rosalind.
2015 Order of Finish: Win Place Show
1st: Curvy (GB) $6.90 $4.80 $3.50
2nd: Talmada $9.80 $6.30
3rd: Rosalind $8.40
(Also Ran: Strut the Course, Button Down (GB), Nakuti (IRE), Devonshire (IRE), Yaazy (IRE), White Rose, Eastern Belle (GB), Uchenna (IRE), Lacy (GER))

Trivia Worth Knowing!
Flying Trapeze, with Vic Bovine onboard, won the inaugural 1 1/16 mile race in 1956 on the dirt at Greenwood Raceway. Jim Boylen, from Lanson Farm, was the winning owner. Jim and his brother Phil are rather infamous for "passing" on an opportunity to purchase Canadian super-horse Northern Dancer. Legendary Hall of Fame jockey Sandy Hawley has the most wins (1976, 1978, 1982) with three trips to the Woodbine Racetrack Winner's Circle.
Mrs. Lindsay (7/5 chalk) gained the rail and dueled Sealy Hill (4/1) down the stretch to win the 2007 E.P. Taylor Stakes. A distant relative of Northern Dancer, Mrs. Lindsay set the current race and course record at 2:00.68. Hall of Fame trainer "Large Lou" Cavararis won three straight E.P. Taylor Stakes with three different jockeys and horses from 1967 to 1969.
