2016 Canadian International Contenders
The 2015 Canadian International (G1) lived up to its name and attracted a quality field of eleven turf horses representing five different countries. Cannock Chase, a four-year-old son of Lemon Drop Kid who was foaled in Kentucky but raced primarily in Europe, went to post as the favorite.
Cannock Chase broke slowly but settled in the middle of the pack and raced just off of the rail. He showed a terrific turn of foot to quicken sharply as they approached the top of the stretch and kicked clear to win by 1 ½ lengths. The popular Canadian champion, Up with the Birds, briefly had the lead in the stretch but settled for second.
It was the second consecutive year that jockey Ryan Moore and trainer Sir Michael Stoute, two of the most renowned forces in Europe, teamed up to win the Canadian International (G1).
